    Turning trends into marketable products

    At FI Europe Connect, our Brenntag Food & Nutrition experts are focusing the product concepts on two major trends that are gaining momentum with consumers: Plant-based and Health & Wellness.

    These two topics are on everybody’s minds as the publication of the Top 10 trends for 2021 from Innova Market Insight recently showed*.

    Plant-based has been part of these Top 10 trends for several years and a 2019 Innova Market Insights Consumer survey indicated that 58% of global consumers prefer plant-based claims when buying alternatives to meat or dairy. Furthermore, consumers are increasingly demanding new products that give them more plant-based options in their diet. We will share with you innovative product concepts that meet the need of consumers for novelty but also address the specific challenges linked to the formulation of plant based products.

    The topic plant-based is closely linked to our other focus topic: Health & Wellness. The Innova Consumer Survey 2020 showed that one of the reasons for eating plant-based is health. And this year in particular, “Immunity” gets special attention as 45% of global consumers say they’re consuming more food & beverage products that boost their immune system in the wake of COVID-19*. Another interesting aspect shown in the Innova Consumer Survey 2019 is that 56% of consumers said that they had increased their consumption of functional foods/drinks to foster a healthy lifestyle.
