Vitamins

The nutrients you need

With more and more people becoming health conscious and paying closer attention to their overall well-being, vitamin consumption has risen to ensure healthy bodies and greater resistance to illnesses. Vitamins are nutrients that can help create energy from food, assist in the healing process, and strengthen the immune system. The list of positives from including the proper amount of vitamins in a daily diet far outweighs the negatives, which has led to an increase in the number of vitamins the population takes on a daily basis. This has generated growth in the use of vitamins within the food industry.

Different types of vitamins

Vitamins are needed in small quantities to sustain life. We need to add multiple different vitamins to our diet because the human body either does not produce enough of these vitamins or any at all.

Different types of vitamins for healthy living include:

  • Vitamin A; fat soluble vitamin and needed to maintain good vision and a healthy immune system, as well as being essential for growth and development
  • Vitamin B (B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12), class of water-soluble vitamins, needed to decrease tiredness and have a normal metabolism
  • Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin and a common additive added to various foods, mostly to retard oxidation. Needed for the generation of collagen for normal function of bones, blood vessels etc.
  • Vitamin D, not present naturally in most foods, it is commonly added as a fortification in manufactured foods; supports the intake of calcium and needed for having normal bones, muscle functions, teeth etc.
  • Vitamin E; found naturally in many foods and acts as an antioxidant
  • Vitamin K, is a fat-soluble vitamin, supports the normal blood coagulation and needed to maintain the bone structure

Applications for vitamins

Beverages

Fruit juices, flavored water, fitness drinks, and energy drinks are classic examples enriched by various functional vitamins. A strong growing niche is vitamin-enriched health drinks.

Cereals

Cereal-holding products are indispensable in our diet and find applications in a wide variety of applications as snack bars or breakfast cereals. These products are enriched with vitamins and, in many cases, minerals and trace elements as well as other functional ingredients such as fiber or plant extracts.

Food supplements

Vitamins are used here in various dosage forms, such as capsules or effervescent tablets, but can also be offered as instant powders. Examples are sports food, meal replacers, or diet product offered as instant powders including flavors to achieve attractive taste.

The right dosage for vitamins in these types of products depends on the regional recommended daily Nutritional Reference Value (NRV) dosage and, in most cases, vitamins are used in combination with other functional raw materials.

Bakery

Vitamins are added to baked goods as an enrichment of the flour in order to replace the lost ingredients in the processing. For several markets (worldwide) there is already a mandatory prescribed quantity, for others, there are recommendations of enrichment available.

Fortification with vitamins in baked goods (biscuits, cookies) is often used within a combination of other functional ingredients (fibers, minerals, trace elements).

Dairy products

As dairy products play an important role in daily needs, they also represent a healthy image and are a natural source of proteins. We represent this wellness and health aspect in many cases by enriching them with important vitamins and additional minerals.

This is primarily used for milk drinks for children and adults, but also yogurt products. Vitamins can be added to the dairy product, but it is also possible to achieve the enrichment by adding the vitamins into the fruit preparations which are added to the dairy.

Confectioneries

Sweets are an indulgence in some people’s lives and therefore companions in the diet. For an ever-growing group, this is "healthier" snacking. To meet the interest for healthier snacks the amount of sugar is reduced, and vitamins are added to products such as fruit gums and hard candies.

Baby foods

High-quality vitamins already play a major role in baby food and are used in infant and follow-up food. The strict guidelines required here are the basis and a decisive criterion for the use of creating the perfect product based on the latest studies and requirements.

Functional multi-ingredients solutions

As vitamins are very dosage based on the daily recommendation, we offer functional multi-ingredients solutions to maintain the easy and safe processing in your operation. Overdosages are taken into account in order to compensate for possible losses during the processing and shelf life. Often this is also used as a multi-functional solution in combination with functional ingredients to receive the best possible all-in-one solution (minerals, fibers, trace elements, extracts).

The quality of your vitamins is directly related to the purity and consistency of your raw materials. Vitamin consumers expect effective vitamins that deliver as advertised. Start with nutraceutical ingredients from manufacturers you can trust.
